HAPPY WINTER! As the dreary days of winter are upon us, it’s a great time for indoor activities. If you want to limit the time your child looks at the screen, give them a piece of paper and a few crayons. Ask them to draw what winter time means for them. Winter is a time of rest. It’s also a time for reflection. Ask your child to draw what their favorite part of the holidays were. Then have them tell you about their drawing. Our 3 year old granddaughter comes up with the most elaborate pictures and they all make sense to her, but I don’t have a clue what they are. She goes into great detail telling me what she drew. You can just see the joy and pride in her face as she explains the drawing. Another fun thing to do is, color a picture yourself with crayons and only do half the picture. Then send it to your grandchild or other child you know, and let them finish the picture. I did this with my granddaughter and we had so much fun. See the photo above. Make the most of these winter days. Put peanut butter in a pinecone and hang it from a tree. Then watch the birds and talk about the different kinds of birds. Make a cute snowman, take nature walks and bring home your treasures and talk about them. There’s always something to be done, in your own backyard.
